Frequently Asked Questions

[fa icon="plus-square"] What is the Tuk Tuk Cartel?

Tuk Tuk Cartel is an Unconventional NGO that caters to adventurist who want to go to out of the ordinary volunteer destinations.

Founded in June 2016 by Technology Consultant Alain Buffing with rebellious spirit and a bold objective: To identify innovative projects in underdeveloped regions at the far corners of the world that truly kick ass. Once on our radar we want to empower these projects to extend their impact, and we do so by connecting them to adventurous volunteers, who strive to disrupt the status quo and improve society.

We engage a group of volunteers in an intense two-week trip in an Exotic location abroad that covers local construction activities, educational workshop with the locals and adventurous activities. In 2016, volunteers from 7 countries worldwide have participated.

Each trip is led by our trained project managers, who engage with volunteers in individual and group activities. We generally have a ratio of one project manager for every five volunteers. During the trip, volunteers will be stimulated to come out of their comfort zone, challenge the ordinary and leave something behind.

The Fundraising commit for the program is 1,000. Attending volunteers include corporate employees, freelancers, independent professionals and entrepreneurs.

A lot. Every Cartel member needs to commit to fundraising€1,000. You’re probably thinking “Why should I have to pay when I am giving away my valuable time and knowledge?” Well, there are two reasons for this. Firstly, Tuk Tuk Cartel requires a significant amount of commitment, not only from you but also from the people and communities of the projects you will participate in.

We believe that it takes both participation and money to make shit happen and accomplish our dreams. Secondly, we need your Benjamin's in order to invest in and develop revolutionary ideas. 100% of our operating costs are covered by corporate donors, which means 100% of your fundraising goes directly to projects on the ground. Our goal isn’t necessarily to be the biggest organization, because truly, we appreciate a small yet very dedicated crowd. However, we will be MASSIVE in our efforts to connect people around the globe and make this world a better place.

If this sort of change or investment is too much, we totally get it. Tuk Tuk probably isn’t for you. The good news is that you can always visits the local sites by yourself when we don't have a group there and contribute without paying. Furthermore, all the content and details are on the blog or accessible in our free Ebooks. There are no secrets.
[fa icon="plus-square"] What are dates for the next trip?
Since we are a bespoke NGO that caters unorthodox volunteering experiences for the bold and the brave we only have a limited amount of availability and space throughout the year.

Till the end of 2016 we only have one active project, however it is a project with a very big footprint. We will take on thechallenge to build the first Eco-School in East Africa. Trips will be taking place from summer 2016 till summer 2017. Later in 2017 we will also launch programs to South Africa and Nepal.

In case you want more information you can submit your detailshere, and we will contact you to discuss our current projects and how you can participate.
